Stay Connected This Summer

Featured Business

As the economy opens up and we move through the stages of the Re-Open Saskatchewan plan this summer, we are still faced with limitations around what we can do and how we can interact safely. However, despite these changes and the need to practice physical distancing, we can still stay connected and continue to build community during the pandemic. Here are some ways to cultivate and maintain connections this summer.

Join an Online Community

Stay connected with local organizations or community groups through online platforms. Here are two local groups that you can become involved in:

The Yellowhead Flyway Birding Trail is a group that is dedicated to combining nature and community. Their site is designed to be a place where you can find the best outdoor activities and resources for children, teens, and adults alike that you can do in your backyard.

Caremongering Yorkton and Area is a Facebook group created to help to people in need in the Yorkton area. Support your neighbours or fellow community members with groceries, prescriptions deliveries, childcare, senior care, mental or physical help.

Connect with Parents & Families

With the Triple P Parenting program, SIGN is offering a number of programs using video conferencing where parents can connect with each other and find ways to prevent, as well as treat behavioural and emotional challenges in children and teenagers.

Yorkton Big Brothers Big Sisters of Yorkton and Area is planning Golf for Kids and Bowl for Kids fundraising events. Check out their website for information on dates and details.

Connect with Local Producers

Although the Yorkton Farmers Market is not operating in the same fashion, there are still plenty of opportunities to purchase fresh produce and local goods. The organization has posted contact information for several vendors so that customers can contact them directly.

Hit the Links

With new COVID-19 safety guidelines in place, golfers can now enjoy a round of golf with a few family members or friends. Book a tee-time at one of our local courses: Deer Park Golf CourseYork Lake Golf and Country Club and Cherrydale Golf Course.

Watch a Sidewalk Concert

The City of Yorkton, in partnership with the Yorkton Arts Council, will be offering free Sidewalk Concerts for Yorkton residents this summer. Sidewalk Concerts can be enjoyed by households from the safety of their own private properties. The plan is to have two, 20 to 30 minute concerts scheduled on Wednesday or Thursday evenings almost every week from late June through August.

Visit a Park or Take a Hike

School and community playgrounds are open to the public effective June 12. If you have reservations about allowing children to play on public play structures, there are plenty of other greenspaces in and around town to be enjoyed. Plan a leisurely hike or pack a picnic and enjoy the beautiful scenery in these local passive parks.

Watch a Film

The Yorkton Film Festival has been a premiaere and long-standing event in Yorkton. Due to COVID-19, the annual awards ceremony will be held on-line this year. The YFF 2020 Golden Sheaf Awards Ceremony will be taking place on June 18, 2020 at 7 pm. The YFF is also assisting families through the pandemic by offering free at home delivery (within Yorkton) or mail to other locations of great short films.

As more businesses and organizations resume their operations over the coming weeks and months, stay connected and informed with what is happening in the Yorkton area by visiting www.yourcommunityconnection.ca.

Regardless of what activities you participate in, keep informed of the public health orders and safety guidelines outlined by the Province of Saskatchewan and go to the Public Health Agency of Canada website for the latest information on symptoms, prevention, and other resources.
